Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510) was one of the most prominent painters of the early Renaissance in Florence. Botticelli is known to have written over 150 works, but most of them were destroyed by representatives of the Catholic Church. The Birth of Venus, one of his masterpieces, was miraculously saved.
